At Kingsley Woodwork, every piece of furniture we make is unique — designed, built, and finished by hand for a specific home. But what actually happens once you get in touch with us?
In this post, we’ll walk you through our bespoke furniture process from initial enquiry through to delivery — so you’ll know exactly what to expect when you choose a handcrafted piece from our workshop.
Step 1: Your Vision
The journey starts with you. Whether you’ve got a full design in mind or just a rough idea, we’ll work with you to understand what you’re looking for — from the function of the piece to the style, dimensions, and preferred materials.
We’re happy to work from sketches, photos, Pinterest boards, or even a simple list of requirements. We’ll also advise on the best type of wood (oak, walnut, or ash) based on your style and how you plan to use the furniture.
Step 2: Design & Quote
Once we understand your vision, we’ll produce a detailed design and quote. This includes:
A visual mock-up or sketch of the proposed piece
Precise measurements
Wood and finish recommendations
Price and lead time
We’ll take the time to refine the design until it’s exactly right — and there’s no obligation to proceed until you’re happy with everything.
Step 3: Handcrafting Your Piece
Once approved, we begin work in our Staffordshire workshop. Every part of the piece is built by hand using traditional techniques and modern precision tools. We use solid hardwoods sourced responsibly, and everything is crafted with long-term durability in mind.
Depending on the project, this can take from a few days to several weeks. We’ll keep you updated throughout the process with photos and progress updates.
Step 4: Finishing Touches
After assembly, we carefully sand and finish your furniture using Rubio Monocoat — a plant-based oil that enhances the wood’s natural character while offering lasting protection. Each piece is inspected and detailed to ensure a flawless finish.
Step 5: Delivery to Your Door
We personally deliver most of our furniture within Staffordshire and nearby areas including Rugeley, Cannock, Lichfield and beyond. Larger pieces are delivered fully assembled and ready to enjoy.
If you’re further afield, we’ll arrange secure and professional delivery through a trusted courier.
